David Mitchell’s breathtaking latest multi-genre novel, The Bone Clocks, was called “recklessly ambitious” by the Guardian and was longlisted for the Man Booker. It follows the life of Holly Sykes — through the eyes of multiple characters — from her scarred adolescence to an old age of the future, when Europe’s oil supply dries up and the world descends into chaos. Mitchell has spoken of writing an ‘über-novel’, with each of his six works contributing to its universe. Graphs have been produced by fans showing recurring characters and other links between his titles, and yet each one is completely stand-alone and often wildly different.
This very special Sunday evening event at the Court Theatre will see David Mitchell explore that universe in conversation with WORD Christchurch’s Literary Director Rachael King.
The WORD Christchurch Autumn Season is presented in association with the Auckland Writers Festival.
